Dr. Nagler has over 30 years of experience as a therapist and has been a psychologist for 28 years. She attended Hofstra University for 11 years and has a combined Bachelor’s Degree in Art and Psychology. Dr. Nagler was a painter and has a Master’s Degree in Art Therapy. She was an art therapist for 3 years.
She did her training working with adults with moderate to severe mental retardation at Suffolk Developmental Center, which was in Melville. Additionally, Dr. Nagler did her Art Therapy internship at North Shore University Hospital (Northwell) in Manhasset at their Day Treatment Center where she worked with adults with schizophrenia and bi-polar disorder, as well as people with severe depression.
Dr. Nagler's School Psychology training was in Freeport at an elementary school and a Middle School, mostly doing evaluations for students who were classified with special education needs. Her Clinical Psychology training was at Brunswick Hospital in Amityville working in the Physical, Medicine and Rehabilitation unit, where she worked for 10 years followed by full-time private practice.
She mostly worked with post-stroke patients, but also amputees. Some of the patients had Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) and she ran the TBI program after her training. Dr. Nagler performed all of the neuropsychological testing on those patients, neuropsychological screenings of the stroke patients, individual counseling and group therapy for TBI and amputee patients. She coordinated the care of the TBI patients with all other disciplines in the program and met with their families to develop a discharge plan with follow-up care.
